Conference, AGM and Ballgame Results

The ACA is very pleased to provide you with the following results from the 2010 Annual Conference and associated events, held in Halifax, N.S. over the past several days.

For the conference itself, over 285 individuals participated with 230 registered delegates, a number of registered and invited guests, more than 30 individuals representing 15 organizations participated in the Trade Show, as well as 20 individuals who participated as chairs or presenters in their specific sessions.  Proceedings from many of the sessions and the pre-conference will be available through the Members website in the coming weeks. 

The Opening Gala attracted more than 170 delegates and guests, with 135 attending the closing Dinner & Dance.  In addition, there were a total 205 participants in the Lunenburg, Wool & Wine, George's Island and Walking Tours.  73 individuals participated in the two pre-conference workshops. 

At the Awards Lunch, several important awards were announced.  Steven Maynard (Queen's University) received the Kaye Lamb Prize for his article in Archivaria #68, while Heather MacNeil (University of Toronto) received the Hugh Taylor Prize for her article in Archivaria #66.  Four members were honoured as Fellows of the Association: Apollonia Steele (retired, University of Calgary), Ted Hart (retired, Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies), Tom Nesmith (University of Manitoba) and Jerry O'Brien (retired, Library and Archives Canada). 

At the ACA AGM, the resolution to freeze individual member fees at the 2009 rate for 2011 was approved.  Note: institutional member fees were frozen at the 2009 rate for 2010 & 2011 at the 2009 AGM in Calgary.  Loryl MacDonald (University of Toronto) and Deirdre Bryden (Queen's University) were elected to the respective positions of President and Secretary-Treasurer for the period January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2012.  They will shadow the incumbents, Paul Banfield and Michele Dale as Directors-elect over the next 6 months until the official start of their terms.  Vice-President and Communications Chair, Rod Carter, introduced members to the new discussion, document sharing and blog features which are being incorporated into the Members website.  Visit the site at http://members.archivists.ca/ where you  use the same ID & password for your login as at the Members Only site.  There is a discussion thread in the Open Group for comments & suggestions to improve the site. 

The members and directors of the ACA Foundation conducted it's AGM at which Barbara Craig (University of Toronto), Carman Carroll (Carroll & Associates) and Braden Cannon (Provincial Archives of Alberta) were elected to the Board.  Chair Michele Dale thanked the departing Directors: Heather Home, Ellen Scheinberg and Scott Goodine.  The Foundation announced the completion of three legal documents required to comply with Canada Revenue Agency and Ontario trustee requirements, that are now available on the Foundations web page. 

The East-West Ballgame was hotly contested with the West jumping out to an early lead in the 2nd inning, and they held this through several innings while the East was able to narrow the gap somewhat.  In the bottom of the 7th and final inning, the East was able to overtake the West, scoring several runs to win the game.
