Dear Archival Colleagues,
The Association of Canadian Archivists was deeply dismayed to learn of Library and Archives Canada plans to eliminate 105 staff positions. The private archives area, including special media archivists, is being cut from 41 to 27 archivists. The cuts will be done through a competitive process. The ACA feels profound sympathy for our LAC colleagues who are affected by these changes.
We also wish to reiterate concerns that have been expressed in the archives community in regard to the closing of the National Archival Development Program and the consequences this will have to the community in the coming weeks and years. This is truly a blow to the Canadian archival system.
We would like to stress that the ACA will be doing everything we can to support LAC colleagues and the Canadian Council of Archives.
Best Regards,
Loryl MacDonald
ACA President
