Description & Duties: 

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre currently has a temporary full-time opportunity (approx. 1 month) for a PAIL Network Archivist in our Women & Babies Program: Pail Network.

The Archivist supervises the transfer of historically significant PAIL records to the PAIL Archives and establishes the Archives of PAIL Network. The Archivist appraises, acquires, arranges, describes, manages, preserves, and provides access to the archival material and artifacts; organizes and implements programs in digitization, oral history, records management; researches, advises on equipment needed for the proper conduct of the archival functions; advises and consults with the Program Manager, PAIL Network for the selection of resources for the PAIL Network collection; and develops the PAIL Network Archives web site.


  • Masters’ Degree in archival and records administration, history, information studies, public history, public administration, or related field and/or a library science MISt  with an emphasis on archives.
  • Provincial or other vocational or professional certification or degree an asset 
  • Preference given to candidates with five years of archival experience
  • Must have familiarity with the Rules for Archival Description (RAD) format and regional and national catalog databases
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate records management systems and to recommend improvements
  • Ability to design new or revised systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member without close supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office software products including MS Access
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform repetitive finger/hand/wrist tasks.
  • Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
