The Presbyterian Church in Canada Archives
Project Archivist: 4 June 2012 -- 24 August 2012
Note: This position is funded through the Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations Programme. Potential employees must be registered with the Young Canada Works Candidate Inventory to be eligible for a position under this granting programme. Please go to www.youngcanadaworks.gc.ca in order to add your name to this inventory.
Under the direction of the Archivist, the successful candidate will appraise, arrange, describe, scan and preserve a wide variety of photographs and slides from the Archives Graphics collection (approximately 3,500 images prior to appraisal). Additionally the candidate will, under supervision, select images and write text on an assigned topic that will result in a new exhibit for our Archives website (www.presbyterianarchives.ca) to further highlight our historical collection to researchers. Every attempt will be made to offer the student a complete experience as a professional archivist.
The successful candidate will be between 18-30 years of age and currently pursuing an accredited university or college archives programme, and must be returning to school in the fall. Some previous experience with archival photos is desirable but not required. The student should be familiar with RAD, the current Copyright law, the scanning process, and DBTextworks software. Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills are required.
